Esquimalt Ribfest Field of Dreams

Besides having a good time with the family, finger-licking’ ribs, local craft brews and the best local live music, what is Ribfest all about?

This all began as an idea to raise some money for the youth in our community. Our goal was simple. Use proceeds from the festival to help with the start-up of the Esquimalt High School ‘Sea Wolves’ Rugby Academy. That was 2013. Today the Academy is up and running,  building young people for the future!

Our next project is to provide Esquimalt with an all-weather playing field. Esquimalt is the only core Municipality without an all-weather playing surface or turf field. Our kids have to leave the community for outdoor field activities for as long as three or four months every year as our Municipal fields close.

This project is big! It starts with resurfacing the 45-year-old track (thanks, EHS classes of 1969, 70 and 71 for the legacy), installing a synthetic, state-of-the-art turf field great for soccer, field lacrosse, rugby and general purpose use.

It includes:

  • lights for year round use
  • grandstand for large events
  • field house for change rooms, washrooms and meeting area

This overall project will be in the realm of $6M, a lofty undertaking completed in stages as funds allow.
